Massachusetts Congressman Introduces Sweeping Global Warming Bill

As the U.S. Senate prepares to take up Sen. Joseph Lieberman’s (I-CT) and Sen. John Warner’s (R-VA) global warming pollution reduction legislation next week, a new bill has been introduced this week.  Rep. Edward Markey’s (D-MA) proposed bill would reduce carbon dioxide pollution by 85% by mid-century, making it the most sweeping piece of legislation introduced at the federal level thus far.

One Response to “Massachusetts Congressman Introduces Sweeping Global Warming Bill”

  1. Barbara Foster Says:

I hope to hear, finally, of strong support in Congress for Edward Markey’s proposed bill to limit carbon emissions by 85%. I have been disheartened and frankly, appalled, at the lack of support that so many energy initiatives have received even since an overturn of a Republican controlled Congress. What are we waiting for??? Have you all read the IPCC’s report released last fall, stating that how we respond in the next few years will determine our planetary future? The “little people”‘ are on the move-churches, schools, kids, parents, towns, and some states. When will our national government reflect our commitment and efforts to preserve our precious planet for our precious children everywhere? We can not accomplish dramatic enough carbon reductions without federal support in funding and policies. We, your people, demand you, our representatives, take a stand based on science, your conscience, and your avowed representation of us, the very concerned citizens of the United States.
I will continue to act within my family, community, and state, as I hope my federal and state representatives will uphold their civil and moral responsibilities.
